Global ConectionsAyer tuve una conversación relacionada a los lenguajes globales, es un tema que por años ha preocupado a las grandes potencias comerciales debido a su implicación limitante ante el flujo de información y el éxito de las operaciones. Para empezar con algo tan elemental como son los nombres de las personas, por ejemplo mi nombre es Juanmanuel Cunningham Armas. En un ambiente hispano hablante quizás no tendré problemas con mi primer nombre, por supuesto tendré problemas con  la forma escrita ya que lo normal es Juan Manuel, después tenemos el apellido, Cunningham, este es un nombre Escoses, por lo tanto en países hispano hablantes es muy difícil que me entiendan el apellido en el momento de presentarme, tengo que deletrearlo y aun asi es un problema. Muchas veces optaba por decir Juan Armas, O Juanmanuel Armas …

En Asia es aun mas difícil ya que en China particularmente los nombres son monosílabos y constan de tres caracteres (tres silabas separadas) por ejemplo Hu Xin Tao , Deng Xiao Ping, cada silaba es un carácter.  Si me presento y digo todo mi nombre creen que estoy diciendo el nombre de toda mi familia de una vez. En estos caso opto por nombrarme como Hu An (pronunciado Ju An) , imagínense todo lo demás, hablar de números, de direcciones, de expresiones comerciales, etc.

El idioma Ingles no hay que negar que es muy flexible para términos técnicos y para los números, pero a la hora de usar palabras compuestas confunde a las personas que no están familiarizadas con ella. Por ejemplo, Turn Over , Pull Back, Back up, Back off, upgrade, downgrade, etc. etc…

En estos casos español es mucho mas directo y especifico. Hay otros problemas con el español, después de tantos anos de relaciones comerciales con Estados Unidos, latino América ha sufrido de incontables cambios en el vocabulario, por ejemplo, en lugar de oportunidad decimos Chance, en lugar de Cable o alambre decimos Guaya (Wire) , decimos chequear en lugar de revisar e infinidad de palabras que usamos en el día a día y no paramos a pensar de donde provienen. Esto fue un aprendizaje cuando me vi forzado a interactuar con personas de origen español, que cuando me escuchaban hablando no reparaban en corregirme los “Anglicismos”

Ya el esperanto perdió su momento, el Ingles tiene vigencia cada vez más, de hecho según estudio info-grafico se reconoce que hay más personas hablando en ingles en China que en los mismos estados unidos, es increíble.

Para ser hoy dia una persona de negocios muy competitiva hay que dominar entonces el Idioma Ingles, el Español y el Mandarin…. A estudiar entonces…..

Upgrade (The hidden business)

Have you noticed that almost all your computer (or devices)  apps, widgets or programs are updates regularly and more than ever before? If you think about it, millions of people downloading the latest upgrade , how many gigabytes of payable a data is being consumed? Millions and millions of dollars!! Sometimes app developers are truly concerned with the improvement of your application but lets be honest, sometimes the upgrade is well planned and belongs to a business strategy…. I have decided not to use programs that are updated once a week, just my antiviruses and computer maintenance tools, such as CCleaner, AVG and Adaware.

Blackberry app world is asking me to download apps upgrades almost everyday, sometimes twice a day even upgrades for the app to control the lights of the device! Everytime I upgrade I use an average of 1 mb , China Unicom has more than 150 milion users, so do the math… Not only that! Let alone the wap push messages asking you to download songs, videos and themes… Welcome to the best hidden business of all times.

Next time you are asked to upgrade your app or program think if it is really necessary.  Last week I upgraded my Firefox Mozilla and I lost 3 important add ons because they were not compatible with the new version!!

1. All Apple apps are updated at least once a month.

2.Blackberry flashlight

3. Blackberry lock for messenger

4. Blackberry Survice

5. Adobe reader

6. Adobe Flash

7. The infamous Windows update!

Blackberry Service in Shenzhen , China .

I have been using Blackberry service in Shenzhen since 2009. I first made a contract with China Mobile using BES (Blackberry Enterprise Service) , I had to spend a year paying over 1000 RMB (150 US$) realizing that the service was not worth it, I cancelled it when the year was over and spent around 3 months waiting so see if China Unicom would come up with Blackberry Service.

And so it was, China Unicom opened up Blackberry (BIS) service in July 01st 2011 . After struggling a while with the service staff over the application for this service I can give you a small list of details for you to open up a Blackberry Internet Service in China Unicom :

1. You need a 3G SIM Card.It means if you do not have it you need to change your phone number, they usually start with the prefix 186 . It is around 200 RMB,

2. You need to apply for Blackberry service. the Best plan is 98 RMB every month. they give you around 150 mb per month.

3. Need to go to a China Unicom service centre, the authorized resellers are not authorized to apply for this plan.

4. If you do not have a Blackberry Smartphone that supports 3G , it does not matter, buy the SIM card anyway, you will be connected with EDGE by default. I checked with a 8520 .

5. after you are set, you need to register at :  chinaunicom.blackberry.com  to create your BIS Account. Before registering restart your handset, if you do not see EDGE or Blackberry symbol next to the 3G you need to go to your host table setting and request for your device registration with the system, it’s not to common but it can happen. Your device will notify you about this and give you the exact instructions.

6. when you have registered your BIS account you are ready to go….

I usually pay around 200 RMB every month and service is stable within the city limits.

Who controls the information?

It’s been centuries since some small group of people controls information, based on how foolish their audience is the larger their profits are. We live in a world of gossip, where we are entertain by the demise and misfortune of others. There are some people that are really into it, I can name several sources but what is the point? I will not become part of the problem. Juanmanuel Cunningham Armas , that is my name, it was given to me, and with it I have been able to open bank accounts, set up business, register my children’s birth certificates, get married, and so on, but who controls the names? the records?? are we just a number like the movies say? we are worth what our number says….

Next time you are face to face with a problem, ask yourself, what am I? why do I have to respond to this? is it really important? you are not history, history is just another more record in books, when you die you don’t take that with you…. so be free and try to be as good as your heart demands you to be…. peace!

It was not so long ago that we had to type our homework with our parents typewriter, I personally prefrerred to make them by hand, it was faster and easier. I then discovered computers, “WORDSTAR” and “LOTUS 123” were like the lost treasure of the word processing. I imporved my homeworks and my teachers would appreciate the clean and sleek presentation when they had to read to make their grading.

It was a good time, I remember my mother would use it very easily and there was not too much to be said and done, just type in and “Presto”!!!! , last night i brought a new printer/scanner/fax machine home. My friends, i spent three hours, upgrading the firmware, installing the drivers, now they do not even use cables, it is all wireless, good for me and the cleaning lady but if i hadn’t had any google reference or ask.com i bet i would still be installing the printer. while installing i was thinking of  my aunts or my mom doing the same. I guess they just could not do it in three hours, they would have to call someone to do it for them. We have made things more complex, more unfriendly, if you do not have an “Intermediate” knowledge on computers terms and skills you are not installing your printer! and they say on the box it is plug and play! well as a good friend just mentioned yesterday, < I had a problems with your website “cookies” , She said she was having problems with the cookies she bakes let alone the ones in her computer! >
Year ago, i read that simplicity is the greatest sophistication. the simpler the more advanced. I think we are on the wrong direction.
and if you do not have a credit card, you are nobody here in the world wide web!!! hope i can see the day computers become more simple and more sophisticated…

If it does not have sugar, it does not deserve to be called candy.

Today I was joking with my wife, we had some Chinese “candies”, but they are totally sugarless, how can you call something a candy if it does not have any sugar? How can you call yourself a person if you don’t have problems? don’t have scars? don’t have hope? you need certain things in life to be called human…
Might sound crazy but life goes trhough with our without you wanting, it goes on an on in this sea of joy and sometimes sea of madness, you can’t stop things from happening, just be aware that in every problem there is an opportunity, in every tear there is hope, in every wonderful moment there is triumph. enjoy your life and forget your sorrows, today what may seems the end of the road is actually a new beginning…

today is a cold rainy day, tomorrow will be summer and someday it will be your day, as I once read, eat more candies, walk around more often, climb more mountians, listen more music, be a little crazier than usual, because someday you will be 80 and would love to go back and do it all over again but there’ll be no more time….

I remember when we used to be unaware of most of everything. We did not know anything at all, we just were, there, around, walking and trying to find mysteries we did not even know they existed.
I remember having to copy cassettes from friends to get the latest imported album, borrowing underground porn, renting copied VHS tapes, and finding the best Slayer album 3 years after its release. it was fun, we were surporised and amazed by everything. I always had this hope of having that bootleg album I had heard of. That song I heard somewhere and I did not have a clue who sang it.
We are now all doomed , we must know it all, if we don’t the common questions comes: “did you google it?? ” and we believe everything that there is, we even trust our health to Google. If we have a pain somewhere, just search it and do what it is said there.
Have a problem, do what that old blog says, need to know the future, consult the online fortune teller, we are so submerged in it that we do not even bother to walk around and meet the neighbors, we just twitt what ever thought is in our minds.
I am not against it, but I am aware of it. We should be more responsible when using Google, twitter, Facebook and all those hundreds of social sites and networks.

When was the last time you heard a record from the first note to the last, when was the last time you spent the day listening over and over to a LP just mesmerized by its cover (Iron Maiden used to blow mi mind) …??

I feel like talking with my granpa and apologizing by not understanding his words when complained about the TV, Atari and Walkman…..

37 years and still cannot manage how to deal with other people’s trust and making clear I am not a stepping stone.
It all began last year, I met some people far up north in Beijing and thought It was a good idea to broaden up my social circles a little bit. Among this people there was this guy who was really eager and pushy about starting business with me. At the time I was so confident in the well being of my current job that had the space to feel imaginative towards new ways of making money.
People disguise frindship with personal interest, and I sometimes forget this. I started making plans of business with this “new friend” and knowing his social connections all hails to the new born friendship.
He started to make plans of moving to my city and I agreed, when he arrived here I realized he did not have a penny, just friends and talking. Well, let’s help him with a place, then food, then shoes, then, then, then……
At the end, his friends never backed his mouth, just talking. He would spend all day long daydreaming about his impossible love, his utopic way of life and his long gone “Golden years”…

It all ended the day I said, “I don’t have more money” , he turned into a monster, a green swamp slime…. He hated my guts and blamed me for all his sorrows. I felt sorry and sad. because we all have our dark side. Who are we to blame and to judge. We are all talk as well.

Storyline, never mix business with friendship, is like juggling with japanese Knives.

Hello

During the last few years I have been trying to create a decent blog, I tried some other blogging sites but they are too limited. I am re-posting my old blogs here. they were written and published before in Blogger.com and twitted and Buzzed… Some of the content was written under lots of stress, some during very happy moments and others during some not so good times. From now on i will try to make this blog more positive and useful to others.

I would like to say that writing has always been my lost activity, there are always ideas and thought in my head I would like to write, but I procrastinate. The lack of discipline has led me to lose years of ideas that could have been written and turn useful to others, I believe each one of us is a teacher and student, a lover and an enemy, a father and a son… We are all in this blue bubble floating in space and we forget that we are here for a tiny fraction of time, our brain tricks us to think we are eternal. Thank you for having me in your internet attention, thank you for reading my words, I wish all your dreams come true and time gives you plenty…
