Firefox 140 Is Here: What’s New in the Latest Update

Firefox 140: The Latest in Speed, Customization, and Privacy

The newest version of Mozilla Firefox—Firefox 140—was released on June 24, 2025, and it’s packed with thoughtful updates. Whether you’re a power user, a casual browser, or a developer, this version has something worth trying out.

🔄 Vertical Tabs Get Smarter

Firefox continues to improve its vertical tab experience. In version 140, the pinned tabs sidebar is now resizable. This means you can drag the sidebar to reveal more or fewer pinned tabs—helping you stay organized and focus on what matters.

🧠 Tab Unloading for Better Performance

Running too many tabs at once? Firefox 140 introduces a new feature: Unload Tab. Simply right-click on one or more tabs and choose “Unload Tab” to free up memory and CPU. The tab stays in place, but the content is suspended until you reopen it.

🔎 Easier Custom Search Engines

Now you can add custom search engines directly from search fields on websites. Just right-click any site’s search bar and Firefox will let you add it. You can also manage them under Settings > Search.

🧹 Cleaner Toolbar, Less Clutter

Don’t want the puzzle-piece icon (Extensions button) cluttering your toolbar? Firefox now allows you to remove it completely, keeping your interface clean while still accessing extensions through the main menu.

💻 Developer Tools & Tech Upgrades

  • Support for CSS Custom Highlight API
  • Improved full-page translations
  • Better support for the CookieStore API and pointerrawupdate event

These updates give developers more flexibility and precision when building for the modern web.

📱 Firefox for Android 140 Highlights

  • Fingerprint/passcode protection for private tabs
  • Select all support for bookmark management

This version helps keep your browsing more secure and manageable on mobile.

🧭 The Direction Firefox Is Heading

Firefox 140 is all about efficiency, customization, and privacy. With the retirement of Pocket, Mozilla is clearly streamlining the browser’s features to focus on core browsing performance and user control.

🚀 How to Update

To get Firefox 140:

  1. Click the ☰ menu in the top-right corner of Firefox
  2. Go to Help > About Firefox
  3. Firefox will automatically check for and install updates

Mozilla Firefox 8.0

(News) Yesterday, Nov 9,2011. Mozilla Firefox released it new version. Mozilla 8.0

If you are looking for a quick review of the new Mozilla Firefox 8.0 : Very slow to load, crashes when loading for first time, very slow interface behavior and sluggish response to heavy websites.

For me the main issue is the problem Mozilla is having with JPEG files.

Still Opera and Chrome are winning the speed battle.

Opera, Firefox, Chrome or IE

Just today I found out that there was a Stumbleupon add-on for Opera, it means a long kick in the Heavy Firefox butt. I had struggled not to criticize Firefox for a long time but it has become slower and annoying over the last two years. Chrome has a corporative allure I don’t like, in previously released blog entries I have talked about how Google is reaching out levels that is hard to trust their Security levels and responsability towards abuse and privacy. IE is long gone for me, except for my bank and corporative websites that require its use.

I welcome Opera daily courage to make a better and faster browser, most of Mozilla’s features are ripped-offs from Opera and as a consequence Chrome and IE… I also use the Opera mini for Blackberry and so far it’s worked great. More technical users would rather use Mozilla due to its flexibility in terms of programming and development but for the common web surfer I highly recommend Opera.  Amazingly features as Opera Unite, Opera Link, Opera Turbo won’t let you down and you might realize how Mozilla has tried to copy these features with not much success….

I am using OPERA 11.52 at the moment, as further reviewing here is the Cnet review before OPERA 11 was launched: http://download.cnet.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-10005498.html

Cheers…

Social sites

what a waste of time, energy and effort it is to keep up with Facebook , twitter and all those…. I forgot for a moment that they are just meant to keep you there for as long as possible to advertise and make their traffic bolder… I am not against them but as all addictive things we must be careful…

The short story is always the best, I am trying now to write as less as possible to make it simpler and easier as possible for all of us….

Upgrade (The hidden business)

Have you noticed that almost all your computer (or devices)  apps, widgets or programs are updates regularly and more than ever before? If you think about it, millions of people downloading the latest upgrade , how many gigabytes of payable a data is being consumed? Millions and millions of dollars!! Sometimes app developers are truly concerned with the improvement of your application but lets be honest, sometimes the upgrade is well planned and belongs to a business strategy…. I have decided not to use programs that are updated once a week, just my antiviruses and computer maintenance tools, such as CCleaner, AVG and Adaware.

Blackberry app world is asking me to download apps upgrades almost everyday, sometimes twice a day even upgrades for the app to control the lights of the device! Everytime I upgrade I use an average of 1 mb , China Unicom has more than 150 milion users, so do the math… Not only that! Let alone the wap push messages asking you to download songs, videos and themes… Welcome to the best hidden business of all times.

Next time you are asked to upgrade your app or program think if it is really necessary.  Last week I upgraded my Firefox Mozilla and I lost 3 important add ons because they were not compatible with the new version!!

Famous upgrades:

1. All Apple apps are updated at least once a month.

2.Blackberry flashlight

3. Blackberry lock for messenger

4. Blackberry Survice

5. Adobe reader

6. Adobe Flash

7. The infamous Windows update!

and so on and on and on…….

Blackberry Service in Shenzhen , China .

I have been using Blackberry service in Shenzhen since 2009. I first made a contract with China Mobile using BES (Blackberry Enterprise Service) , I had to spend a year paying over 1000 RMB (150 US$) realizing that the service was not worth it, I cancelled it when the year was over and spent around 3 months waiting so see if China Unicom would come up with Blackberry Service.

And so it was, China Unicom opened up Blackberry (BIS) service in July 01st 2011 . After struggling a while with the service staff over the application for this service I can give you a small list of details for you to open up a Blackberry Internet Service in China Unicom :

1. You need a 3G SIM Card.It means if you do not have it you need to change your phone number, they usually start with the prefix 186 . It is around 200 RMB,

2. You need to apply for Blackberry service. the Best plan is 98 RMB every month. they give you around 150 mb per month.

3. Need to go to a China Unicom service centre, the authorized resellers are not authorized to apply for this plan.

4. If you do not have a Blackberry Smartphone that supports 3G , it does not matter, buy the SIM card anyway, you will be connected with EDGE by default. I checked with a 8520 .

5. after you are set, you need to register at :  chinaunicom.blackberry.com  to create your BIS Account. Before registering restart your handset, if you do not see EDGE or Blackberry symbol next to the 3G you need to go to your host table setting and request for your device registration with the system, it’s not to common but it can happen. Your device will notify you about this and give you the exact instructions.

6. when you have registered your BIS account you are ready to go….

I usually pay around 200 RMB every month and service is stable within the city limits.

Who controls the information?

It’s been centuries since some small group of people controls information, based on how foolish their audience is the larger their profits are. We live in a world of gossip, where we are entertain by the demise and misfortune of others. There are some people that are really into it, I can name several sources but what is the point? I will not become part of the problem. Juanmanuel Cunningham Armas , that is my name, it was given to me, and with it I have been able to open bank accounts, set up business, register my children’s birth certificates, get married, and so on, but who controls the names? the records?? are we just a number like the movies say? we are worth what our number says….

Next time you are face to face with a problem, ask yourself, what am I? why do I have to respond to this? is it really important? you are not history, history is just another more record in books, when you die you don’t take that with you…. so be free and try to be as good as your heart demands you to be…. peace!

Downgrade, Upgrade, Firmware, Software, WLAN, LAN, OS, and the story goes on and on and on…

It was not so long ago that we had to type our homework with our parents typewriter, I personally prefrerred to make them by hand, it was faster and easier. I then discovered computers, “WORDSTAR” and “LOTUS 123” were like the lost treasure of the word processing. I imporved my homeworks and my teachers would appreciate the clean and sleek presentation when they had to read to make their grading.

It was a good time, I remember my mother would use it very easily and there was not too much to be said and done, just type in and “Presto”!!!! , last night i brought a new printer/scanner/fax machine home. My friends, i spent three hours, upgrading the firmware, installing the drivers, now they do not even use cables, it is all wireless, good for me and the cleaning lady but if i hadn’t had any google reference or ask.com i bet i would still be installing the printer. while installing i was thinking of  my aunts or my mom doing the same. I guess they just could not do it in three hours, they would have to call someone to do it for them. We have made things more complex, more unfriendly, if you do not have an “Intermediate” knowledge on computers terms and skills you are not installing your printer! and they say on the box it is plug and play! well as a good friend just mentioned yesterday, < I had a problems with your website “cookies” , She said she was having problems with the cookies she bakes let alone the ones in her computer! >
Year ago, i read that simplicity is the greatest sophistication. the simpler the more advanced. I think we are on the wrong direction.
and if you do not have a credit card, you are nobody here in the world wide web!!! hope i can see the day computers become more simple and more sophisticated…
