It’s been a while since I don’t write about living here, in Asia I forgot how wrong things are in Latin America, but also remembered why we are also so special, we take things by heart, we are bloodful, we are dared, we are on the fast lane all the time.
It’s a shame we use all this for wrong. In Asia people are hidden, are in the shade, and will never leave their comfort zone, even if they leave they will create a micro cosmos to call their own…..

Our Operative system is never upgraded but our hardware changes all the time.
Do you remember this: Don’t touch! , when we get to your aunt’s house behave or you’ll see when we get home! , Don’t eat and talk at the same time! , be good! pick up your toys!, behave!, this is mine! , if you don’t pick it up I’ll throw it away….. and so on and on and on… is some kind of Psycho programming we are to live since we are born. Even when we play we are being programmed, for war, for rivalry, for hate… You are the good ones, we are the bad ones… let’s play war! tatatatatatatatatatata, you’re dead!! jajajajaja…. seriously, and we still see that’s normal… Last night I went to a 7-eleven to buy something to drink and I saw a kid around 10 years old, assembling a toy machine gun, you had to see with what concentration he was taking care of his toy gun, I guess not even dreaming he’d be so submerged in his fantasy world… Our Operative System comes with this, it’s there, nobody taught us to be like this, we just are like this… See your brain as a supercomputer, it comes with an Operative System in which all programs will run, this OS controls our peripheral devices (sight, hearing, taste, touch, and so on) and then our parents or enviroment introduce all sorts of programs to prepare us for a “good life” , how to eat, how to take care of our body, take care of our “belongings” , become part of society, and all the right “behaviors” we are supposed to have in this world… but , are we actually being “good” , are we “doing the right” ?
We don’t finish a war to jump into other, we spend our lives worrying about money and about a new car, forgetting so many other wonderful things life has for us… We only share with the people we know, remember “Don’t talk to strangers”, And this last phrase is very deep. If you talk to strangers something “bad” can happen! and it’s actually true! We are all strangers. We are all different, so different and so alike!
I was hit by my parents , if you did something “wrong” I was hit by my Dad and my Mom, and unfortunately they programmed me to hit , so now I have three kids, do I have to hit them too! and continue the family tradition of mistreat and violence? Believe me, it’s so deep in our subconscious that I have stopped my hand in the middle of the air and thought , what am I doing? They are just kids, so innocent, so perfect, so us …. when we were kids…. I pray everyday to be a better parent and have my OS changed or upgraded. I would like to go to my brain “control panel” and uninstall lots of unused programs that slow down my system or make it crash down…
Can we change? Can we make a difference?
Writings on the toilets’ walls
remember the writings on the toiltes’ walls at school? you could learn the nastiest stuff and get updates about the girls who made guys write the most graphic details about their sexual life, it was nasty indeed. you could also see the most exclusive pieces of art, very detailed, and sometimes entertaining. I remember all this because that’s how I feel about twitter and all those social networks where you can write whatever’s on your mind without any respect or regard towards other people’s lives… People gossip, cheat, defame and sometimes say the most unimaginable personal secrets on the web! so toilet’s walls have become larger than life… there are no limits for the toilet’s grafitties, so if you have some little secrets or skeletons in the closet, be prepared, be ready for the toilet’s wall 15 minutes of fame. there’s facebook with the pictures, we are so unaware of who’s looking at you, and with what intentions, what started as an innocent site to kill time is now a privacy concern for millions of people around the world. it is so important and critical that when a country is afraid of public opinion the first internet sites to be closed are twitter and facebook. The last example was Egypt, Iran, China, Pakistan and some others.
And for me at the end is all useless, it’s our oldes hobby, gossiping and rejoicing in other people’s tragedies, like Maynard James Keenan says :
Eye on the TV
’cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavour
It happens to be like;
Killed by the husband
Drowned by the ocean
Shot by his own son
She used the poison in his tea
And kissed him goodbye
That’s my kind of story
It’s no fun ’til someone dies
We must admit it this world won’t change until we learn how to shut our mouths and think before we speak…
hehehe, and if you want to see what i just did just follow me on twitter…
Downgrade, Upgrade, Firmware, Software, WLAN, LAN, OS, and the story goes on and on and on…
It was not so long ago that we had to type our homework with our parents typewriter, I personally prefrerred to make them by hand, it was faster and easier. I then discovered computers, “WORDSTAR” and “LOTUS 123” were like the lost treasure of the word processing. I imporved my homeworks and my teachers would appreciate the clean and sleek presentation when they had to read to make their grading.
It was a good time, I remember my mother would use it very easily and there was not too much to be said and done, just type in and “Presto”!!!! , last night i brought a new printer/scanner/fax machine home. My friends, i spent three hours, upgrading the firmware, installing the drivers, now they do not even use cables, it is all wireless, good for me and the cleaning lady but if i hadn’t had any google reference or ask.com i bet i would still be installing the printer. while installing i was thinking of my aunts or my mom doing the same. I guess they just could not do it in three hours, they would have to call someone to do it for them. We have made things more complex, more unfriendly, if you do not have an “Intermediate” knowledge on computers terms and skills you are not installing your printer! and they say on the box it is plug and play! well as a good friend just mentioned yesterday, < I had a problems with your website “cookies” , She said she was having problems with the cookies she bakes let alone the ones in her computer! >
Year ago, i read that simplicity is the greatest sophistication. the simpler the more advanced. I think we are on the wrong direction.
and if you do not have a credit card, you are nobody here in the world wide web!!! hope i can see the day computers become more simple and more sophisticated…
If it does not have sugar, it does not deserve to be called candy.
Today I was joking with my wife, we had some Chinese “candies”, but they are totally sugarless, how can you call something a candy if it does not have any sugar? How can you call yourself a person if you don’t have problems? don’t have scars? don’t have hope? you need certain things in life to be called human…
Might sound crazy but life goes trhough with our without you wanting, it goes on an on in this sea of joy and sometimes sea of madness, you can’t stop things from happening, just be aware that in every problem there is an opportunity, in every tear there is hope, in every wonderful moment there is triumph. enjoy your life and forget your sorrows, today what may seems the end of the road is actually a new beginning…
today is a cold rainy day, tomorrow will be summer and someday it will be your day, as I once read, eat more candies, walk around more often, climb more mountians, listen more music, be a little crazier than usual, because someday you will be 80 and would love to go back and do it all over again but there’ll be no more time….
Blackberry has damaged my night sleep.
Technology really helps, there is a better connection between people and if you are using it for a good cause it can solve your problems much faster , but !
God helps
I cannot remember how many times I have asked God for help and I have received it, for me it’s still amazing why I have not written or spoken about it before. I believe in God, I do not need to go deeper on how or why I Believe, is for all of us to do it or not. It’s a choice, whether you go to church, to a temple, to the beach, to a mountain, sign, pray or dance, God is there for all of us.
From Hong Kong to Shenzhen
It is amazing the way Hong Kong and Main Land China have found the way to control the huge amount of people crossing the border from side to side, I have already been here for more than 6 months and I have had to cross this “border” more than 20 times. The process is really simple but it takes around 30 minutes to be completed, of course, if it is not Friday morning or Saturday afternoon, at these times it can take you around 1 hour, if you are lucky enough not to get behind a touristic group of people, that usually are of around 20 people led by a not-so-fast tourist guide towards the customs clerk, but we will talk about that later.
There are two main ways to go to Mainland China from Hong Kong, the first one is through Lok Ma Chau (Hong Kong side)-HuangGang (Mainland China side), which is the only way if you are traveling by bus or by car, the second one is through Lo wu(Hong Kong side)-Luohu(Mainland China side) if you are traveling by train, this way is very convenient because there are direct connections between the Metro system (MTR) and the railway system (CTR) and once you cross the border to China Mainland the Shenzhen Metro station is 5 minutes away and this Metro system can take you to up to Shi Jie Zhi Chuang (Window of the world) in Nanshan District. If you go through HuangGang you can take a bus (Number 26) to Shennan Road (The main avenue of Shenzhen) or a Taxi (but be careful do not take a taxi without identification, it can be very dangerous if you take a “Pirate Taxi”) the starting fee of the Taxi is 12,50 Yuan, around 1,5 us$.
But my real story is the Nowhere land between Hong Kong and China Mainland, if you are going HK-PRC direction you have to make customs at the Hong Kong border, this border is really creepy, the customs officer wear surgeons’ masks (most of them) and white gloves, it seems as if you are in a BIOHAZARD area. And by the posters you see on the walls you can see that the main concern of the Hong Kong goverment is to avoid massive tropical epidemic diseases such as Dengue, Malaria and the horrible “Bird Flu” . As a world dweller I really appreciate that the HK authorities take good concern over these issues, but as a traveler you feel not so confortable, and once you have checked out you pass through a temperature inspection post controlled by some white-robe , surgeon/masked, pseudo doctors that really creeps you out. Having fever is a big trouble is you are crossing the border, so if you are not feeling very well, please take a rest and wait until you feel better, otherwise I can tell you that you will have some problems… with the health officers ….. I do not want to imagine what will happen if someone with fever is caught there….. I guess you will be quarantined….. It all sounds like a Sci-fi episode, please take care. Once you are in what I call the “Nowhere-Limbo”, you are nowhere, you are not in HK, you are not in Mainland China, so I wonder, where did I get? if something happens here, who can help? you see no HK police officers nor Chinese ones, so it is really surreal, eventhough you keep seeing the Anti-tropical deseases poster, you really do not know who is in charge here, so if you are robbed, or if you are in the toilet and your passport happened to fall in the toilet, what are you going to do? I think that you will have to make a hut there and live from the fishing, because the geographical gap between HK and PRC is a big river…
But if nothing of what I just said happens to you , you have to take a shuttle bus to go to PRC customs, there you can find some duty free shops, mainly imported cigarette and Liquor shops actually, but I do not recommend the Vietnamese Marlboro s, they taste like carton box…. Then you have to fill up an form stating whether you have felt bad or carry any soil or biological stuff, and sign it, I think you are really in a place where there is a serious health problem, but once you hand over the documents you realize that your word is taken for granted, no one scan you here with I high tech thermometer, and the customs officers here are much more friendly and they say hello to you, something so basic but important when you are so far away from home…..
Then you can enjoy your visit to this wonderful city, Shenzhen……..
In my next blog I will talk about the myths and realities of the Chinese food…… They really enjoy eating frogs and toads…….
